Enrolment Time ~ Free Prize Offer
South Manchester Helen O'Grady

Well folks, we are just over a week away from our first showcase of talent to be performed at Wellacre Academy in Flixton. This is a chance for every parent, grandparent, brother, sister, friend or schoolmate to come and see the great drama shows put on by the children at our drama classes. New scenery has been built and new costumes, courtesy of Barbara Haslam have been made. Some of the shows are brand new and have never been performed before by anyone at SMHOG. To say we are excited is an understatement as the thrill of performance can only be experienced by those children getting on the stage and showing what they can do.

As with all activities, some kids take to the art of performance quicker than others. There will be some who may be shy and embarrassed at standing up on stage and say a line. Don’t be. Take it from someone who has dressed up in numerous guises, all of which would embarrass an extrovert, and has survived to tell his tale.

Once, when outside a shop in Urmston where I was promoting a show, Andy submitted a photograph of us both which made it into the top 6 of the Manchester’s Most Embarrassing Father Competition run by the Manchester Evening News. Basically, if you are going to do it, then do it with confidence. Nobody in the audience will know whether it is right or wrong as long as you do it confidently. Just enjoy your time on stage. Remember that most out in the audience will be wishing that they could get on stage with you and perform only they don’t have the opportunity. I reckon I can say this because our parent days in the first term where superb. Most parents were very keen to join in the activities of their children and strut their drama stuff. In reality, we all know that they are closet performers at heart.

That said, after the show we will be two weeks or so away from the end of term. We are currently taking bookings for the autumn term commencing in September. Some of the studios are perilously close to capacity so it might be that you want to secure your child’s place by paying a deposit to do so. Of course, some of you will and have already paid the fees for the autumn term which has attracted a discount of 10% off the fees giving you an opportunity to be entered into our prize draw which is a choice of free theatre tickets of a free term’s drama for one child. This can also be achieved if you are signed up for our standing order payment schedule.
