South Manchester Helen O’Grady Drama Academy Welcomes You….!
South Manchester Helen O'Grady
As the summer comes to an end, although we have been promised a late heatwave courtesy of some weather pattern over the Bahamas, it is now time for the SMHOG teachers to pack away their swimming costumes and put on their drama caps. This summer has been slightly complicated by the fact that we have had an office move so anyone wanting to send post to us now needs to use the address ~ 13 Westgate, Urmston, Manchester, M41 9EL. At the same time we have acquired a new office number which is 0161 749 9746 although we still possess the 0161 929 9586 number by making use of the marvels of the internet. This term is causing further excitement due to the fact that we are going to offering LAMDA classes on a Saturday afternoon in the Urmston area not far from the Trafford Centre.
Why did we choose LAMDA? LAMDA is recognised as an awarding organisation of OFQUAL, the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation in England and the corresponding regulatory authorities in Wales and Northern Ireland. The examinations are open to Upper Primary and Youth students of the Academy and the choice is intended to appeal to learners of all ages. In the UK around half of all universities make reference to UCAS tariff points as part of the course entry requirements. LAMDA’s Level 3 recognised qualifications are included in the current UCAS Tariff.
The University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is the organisation responsible for managing applications to higher education courses in the UK. Its aim is to help students make informed choices that are right for them – guiding them, as well as their parents and advisers, through the higher education application process. Applications through UCAS are conducted using the UCAS Tariff. This is a means of allocating points to compare post-16 qualifications used for entry to higher education. It was developed to help learners make sensible application choices and to provide information to universities and colleges about a wide range of qualifications.
Even if you don’t want to take part in examinations or coursework our classes are fun and challenging. The ethos of the South Manchester Helen O’Grady Drama Academy centres on children becoming more confident, gaining self-esteem and improving communication. The teachers attend regular seminars and receive regular updates to the curriculum which links into the English National Curriculum. The National Curriculum requires “an equality of opportunity and the tools for children to value themselves, their families and other relationships; the wider groups to which they belong; the diversity in society and the environment in which they live”.
If you feel this is something which you would like your child to be involved in then we offer classes up to 18 years old. We have many students who have completed a full range of classes from the age of 5 years old and have never repeated a lesson. There is no competition as children are allowed to develop at their own rate realising their potential and gaining essential life skills as a consequence. The drama classes we operate involve movement and creativity and inspire a commitment to learning in a safe and secure environment.
