VFM means Value For Money
South Manchester Helen O'Grady
What is the difference between South Manchester Helen O’Grady Drama Academy and other local stage and drama schools? Well, according to one of our Gatley youth, it is friendliness. The young person in particular told us of their experience in attending another local stage school in the vicinity of their house. What shocked me most was the fact that the experience was expensive, there was no structure or co-ordination of the class and the classes were so full of people that the tutor only really had time for the “favourites.” There was no chance of making friends and the interaction between class members meant that the atmosphere was one of competition rather than fun and learning. There was no working as a team and she often felt isolated during her lessons. Disheartened they left the class and decided to look for something else to do. A class designed to instill confidence and self esteem had actually achieved the exact opposite and left our friend overwhelmed and disheartened.
Then, by a stroke of luck, they came across some information about Smhog. Contact was made with Jane using 0161 929 9586 who booked the person into a class local to then and, as they state, they never looked back. What used to be an effort to attend at the previous organisation, became a joy to attend. At the photo shoot with Mum we were told of the desire to get to class early to speak with friends who they had made in their class. They was so looking forward to the performance show on the 5th, 6th and 7th July which would be their first with Smhog. We joked about learning lines and being in the right place at the right time. As they went for their picture taking, I commented to mum just how pleasing it is to see someone with so much enthusiasm and commitment being so positive about her class and role within it.
Mum then told Smhog that it was us who should be thanked for providing a service which brought out the best in her child, gave them a new found confidence and a desire to be involved and socialise with friends and associates of their own age. I have got to say it made my day!
